Creating A Report From Analysis Server: Report Execution Error social.msdn.microsoft.com

It seems like a simple enough task: I have an analysis server cube with a transactional table which, of many fields, stores a datetime field called DateAdded. If I go into Report Manager and create a new column report and drag DateAdded over, it shows all date added results in the recordset. If I right-click on the field value in Design Report view and change the expression to state: DATEONLY(DateAdded) (I want to just get the dates from the recordset grouped together) I get a dialog box stating: Report Execution Error The report might not be valid or the server could not process the data. A grouping expression must be either a scalar field or an entity. ---------------------------- Semantic query execution failed. ---------------------------- Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'. ---------------------------- An error has occurred during report processing. Ideally I would like to have the dates listed and then counts from my measures in my fact table on the right. Thanks.

Report Builder Bug?: Semantic Query Execution Failed. Incorrect Syntax Near 'NULLAND'. social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi I get the following error when running a report in report builder using the Adventureworks sample model: Semantic query execution failed. Incorrect syntax near 'NULLAND'.----------------------------Query execution failed for data set 'dataSet'.----------------------------An error has occurred during report processing. Here is how to replicate the error: Create a table report using the Adventure Works model. Select Product entity, add Product Category and #Products to the table. Edit formula for #Products to "COUNT(Products)" and add a filter on Products for "Discontinued Date is empty". (I want a count of products that have not been discontinued). If you run the report now, it willl work as expected. Add a report filter for "Product.Color is empty" (I only want to see products that don't have a color) Run the report to get the above error. While the above is a contrived example, I am getting the same error on a data model that I am developing for a customer. Am I missing something, or is this a bug in Report Builder? Thanks

Datetime Entry For Querying Analysis Service Cube social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi everybody, I have two problems while using a analysis service cube as data source for a reporting service report. 1.) I've an individual time dimension which has day entries in the standard date format "mm/dd/yyyy". When using an parametric entry for the date hierachy the reporting offers me all entries as a list (some 1000 entries). Looking under report parameters I recognized that the input parameter is listed as of the type string. However I know that the underlying field and as well the hierachy in the cube is of the format datetime. Change it to datetime causes the reporting service to fail with the error message: An error occured during local report processing. The property 'ValidValues' of report parameter 'DIM...' doesn't have the expected type. How can I use the parameter in the format datetime to restrict the time dimension? ...so that I can select the date over the calendar function. 2.) I have another dimension with the hierachy cycle which has the string format "year-month". I would like to use the selection of the date hierachy to create the restriction on the cycle hierachy. I.e. entering '01/16/2007' on the time dimension should write the value '2007-01' to a parameter which is then used to restrict the cycle hierachy. Experimenting with report parameters always caused the error message: An error occured during local report processing. An error has occured during report processing. Query execution failed for data set 'DIM...'. Query (1,453) The restriction by the CONSTRAINED-flag in the STRTOSET-function has been violated. As I only allow single value entries I thought about changing the STRTOSET command in the underlying MDX query into STRTOMEMBER. However thisdidn't solve the problem. How can I create an input for a restriction on a dimension based on a parameter with a self constructed string? Thanks, StSt

String To Varchar Conversion - Sybase And SSRS forums.databasejournal.com

Hi, I am having an issue with a Report in SSRS against a Sybase db. The dataset for the report is a Sybase stored proc which is passed a parameter (varchar). When I run the proc in Sybase it runs fine, when I run it in SSRS in the data tab it runs fine, but when I try to preview the report, or run from IE after deploying it I get the following error: An error has occurred during report processing. (rsProcessingAborted) Get Online Help Query execution failed for data set 'Table_1'. (rsErrorExecutingCommand) Get Online Help The given type name was unrecognized Looks like it is an error converting the string in SSRS to a varchar in Sybase, but I don't know how to fix it. If I create a table with an identity (int) column and the varchar column, join this to the proc and pass the int as the parameter the report works fine!! (This is not an option in production though.) I am using SybaseASE OLE DB Provider Version 02.70.0032 Any ideas? TIA, Guytz

Hi I am using VWD 2008, SQL Express 2005, Reporting Services, Win-XP, IIS5 Basically let's say I have 2 pages: Page1: has a SQLDataSource control that populates a GridView from a table from a database file myDB.mdf  (no code behind) Page2: has a reportviewer control that show a report with data from the same table from myDB.mdf from the reportserver, (no code behind) I have attached myDB.mdf to the SQL Server Express using the SQL Server Management Studio Express. If I first open Page2 to display the ReportViewer it works ok. or using the Report Manager Now this is the problem: If after that I try to open Page1 then a get an error message: Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'myServerASPNET'. Exception Details: System.Data.SqlClient.SqlException: Cannot open user default database. Login failed. Login failed for user 'myServerASPNET'. Then I have to restart the SQL Server to fix it, Now I can open Page1 ok, but if after this I try to open Page2 (ReportViewer) again Then I get this error: "      An error has occurred during report processing. o      Cannot create a connection to data source 'my_Datasource'.  & And this error if open the report using the report manager: "      An error has occurred during report processing. o      Cannot create a connection to data source 'my_Datasource'. §      Unable to open the physical file "C:InetpubwwwrootWebsiteApp_DatamyDB.mdf". Operating system error 32: "32(The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process.)".  & Now if i check the Management Studio Express again, you can see that myDB.mdf was detached. It seems to be there by it has no Tables or definitions, so I have to attach it again.. Do you know how to fix this? Thanks in advance, Ed

Report Builder Query Timeout? social.msdn.microsoft.com

Is their a way when creating a Report Builder model to set a query timeout?  Similar to what can be done when creating a Reporting DataSet in VS.NET during report development.   My ultimate goal is to be able to limit ad-hoc report users running Report Builder from waisting resources on my SQL instance.  This has nothing to do with a report being published to a report server and setting a reports execution time limit.

Multiple Dataset Executions social.msdn.microsoft.com

When mapping Parameters to Dataset fields in order to display them in the report header, we are experiencing multiple execurtions of the dataset - e.g. if we have 10 different parameters mapped to datasetfields and the report datasource is profiled using SQL Profiler, we see 10 executions of the dataset query. during report execution. Obviously this is a concern with regard to performance. Can anybody suggest why this is happening and if there is a workaround?

I have setup a local administrative user on their web server called cv_report and setup the virtual directories to run under this account anonymously.  I have also confirmed that cv_report the SQL user exists and is part of the correct roles.  How do you relate the Windows cv_report account and the SQL cv_report account just via the name? I even tried changing the Data source for the TEST config which was setup to use Windows NT Authentication and I switched it to use the cv_report account.  It still didnt work.

SQL Reporting :: Reportviewer Sorting Fails In Successive Post Backs? forums.asp.net

I have created a rdlc file (Binded its columns accordingly, sorting is enabled on few columns) and rendering it using a reportviewer control. Everything works fine while loading report first time; it shows the progress indicator & loads it correctly. When I click on sort_button(default shown by control itself) it sorts correctly. Now successive clicks on sort_button shows error : An error occurred during local report processing. An internal error occurred on the report server. See the error log for more details. Gone through the log at server: Program FilesMicrosoft SQL ServerMSSQL.3Reporting ServicesLogFilesReportServerService__01_19_2010_01_34_05.log but not able to deduce any fruitful exception. Trace value in config file is set to :< add value="3" /> Either disable the sort_button till the report loads completely. Or show the progressbar indicator till the report loads completely.I am not able to find out the solution for: how to achieve any of the two ways mentioned above.

SQL Server Express 2005 Install Failure social.msdn.microsoft.com

I am attempting to install SQL Server express on an XP (SP2) machine with a Pentium processor. The .NET framework version is 2.0. All previous versions of SQL server and related components have been uninstalled, and all related files deleted. Also, during installation, I installed SQL Express using the local service account (vs. network service) per a suggestion in a related thread. I have installed/unistalled numerous times, and continue to receive the same error. At this point, this is becoming a critical issue related to a client ASP.NET application using a SQL express 2005 database. I was hoping by now that MS would have released a new version or patch that would solve this problem, but that does not seem to be the case, that I'm aware of. Report Builder Query Isolation Level social.msdn.microsoft.com

I recently had a user write a Report Builder report that caused timeouts to cascade across our environment. I ran SQL Profiler during the execution of the report and didn't see anything in the query to avoid waiting for locks. I was looking for a (NOLOCK) hint or "set isolation level read uncommitted" but didn't find either. Does the ReportBuilder query translator not set these values, or does it do something different that I can't see? Is there a configuration I can set to force this if necessary? Thanks in advance

Report Server Parameters social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi! I have a report (*.rdl) in my report server, and this report calls a dataset (by an ObjectDataSource of the reportviewer) that has query parameters. I try to run the report but the following error appears: An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for data set 'DataSet3_generar'. Must declare the scalar variable "@Param1". I read that, when you create dataset parameters that the report should inherits these parameters automatically. And when you upload the file into the report server, when you select it in the report manager and see its properties, it should appear a link of parameters. But my report doesn't inherits the dataset parameters automatically, I tried to do it manually using the properties window of visual studio, but It does show the link of parameters in the report manager.. but doesn't link the report parameters with the dataset query parameters. I don't know if the problem is that I am using SQL server Express, because the Report Builder doesn't work properly (with all its functions) So, is there a way of solve this using SQL server express? Or I need SQL server 2005? If there's nothing to do with the server.. then how can I made the link between dataset and report item using visual studio? Thanks! Any suggestion will help me a lot!

Error Using More Than One Dataset social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi, I have a problem using more than one dataset to create my report. I wish to use data from one stored procedure to create the values for a combobox, that I use as input to another stored procedure. When I create more than one dataset and set up my report parameters to use one of them to create comboboxes, I get the following error, when I want to see the preview: An error occured during local report processing. The definition of the report '/StockInTrade' is invalid. The data set name is missing in the data region 'DataSetName' ------------------------------ The report worked just fine when I used hardcodede values for my combobox. The error occurs as soon as I define more than one dataset (meaning it fails even before I try to use the second dataset as report parameter values). Does anyone know what I am doing wrong? -- Heidi :-)

Report Email Subscription Based On Snapshot Update social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi Everyone, I want to receive some reports by email every time the datawarehouse refreshes its content. The data warehouse is being refreshed on a daily basis but the exact time varies between 9:30 am and 11:30 am. I have created the 4 reports in reporting services and set the execution property of each report to Render this report from a report execution snapshot and then created 4 subscriptions for email delivery based on processing option When the report content is refreshed In an Integration Services package I have4 Script steps (VB.net) that perform an UpdateReportExececutionSnapshot for each of the reports. The problem is that these steps fail in a random order every time the package runs. Sometimes they all run fine , but then one or two fail with timeout error. So the emails are not being sent. I am currently using SQL Server 2005 SP2. If anyone has an idea on this issue, please let me know. Best Regards

Issues With MOM Reports After SQL2k5 Install social.msdn.microsoft.com

Query Execution Failed For Data Set 'DataSource1'. Invalid Object Name 'incident'. social.msdn.microsoft.com

Here's the full story... I'm trying to get some proof of concept reports made for a MOSS / SQL Server 2005 (sp2) Integrated solution. I have a simple report that displays everything in the 'incident' uploaded to the MOSS server, and it works fine. I've made another report that uses a line chart to plot some averages. This report, called 'Average Control Time by Weekday' works 100% ok in VS2005 preview mode and both reports use the same datasource. The report is uploaded and the dataset is all linked up. When I view the report (by clicking on it's link on my Sharepoint Site), however, I get an error: An error has occurred during report processing. Query execution failed for data set 'DataSource1'. Invalid object name 'incident'. I've checked the SQL that was run in the SQL Server Profiler to see what transactions were hitting the database. The query that the report makes when in VS2005 Preview mode is precicely the same as what Sharepoint makes when it tries to render the report. I madeanother plain report (just a table view) that uses the same query as the 'Average Control' report and tested it on Sharepoint, and it works perfectly. Any ideas? p.s. I even asked I-God (http://www.titane.ca/concordia/dfar251/igod/main.html) all he said was that I would need a court order to get rid of the recursion in AIML... and then asked for my credit card number.

Setting Up Caching; Getting Logon Failure Errors? social.msdn.microsoft.com

Here's the setup: Running Report Manager from my local PC.Connecting to a remote PC running Windows 2003 with SQL Server AS 2005 and SQL Server RS2005.The base SQL Server 2000database on which the AS cube is built is on another Windows 2003 box. We use Windows Integrated Security everywhere in our shop.We are trying to test out the efficiency of caching, but I cannot get it to work. From Report Manager, I can run the report, BudgetActualsReport, with no problem. Here is what I have tried, in detail First I go to Properties -> Execution and click the radio button for"Cache a temporary copy of the report. Expire copy of report after a number of minutes" for 30 minutes. I get the error: "Credentials used to run this report are not stored" So thenI go to the Properties -> Datasource and add myusername and password in the "Credentials stored securely in the report server" Thedatasource is configured asa custom datasource, with the string in the format: "Data Source=Server_Name;Initial Catalog=Cube_Name" When I try to run the report, I get error: "Cannot create a connection to data source 'DS_Name'. Non-Windows user credentials were supplied for a non-http connection to Analysis Services. The Microsoft SQL Server Analysis Services data extension requires Windows Integrated Security unless connecting via http or https. " So then I go to the Properties ->Datasources and check the box next to "Use as Windows credentials when connecting to the data source" When i run the report, I get the error: "An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot impersonate user for data source 'DS_Name'. Logon failed. Logon failure: unknown user name or bad password. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x8007052E) " So then I go to the Properties ->Datasources and check the box next to "Impersonate the authenticated user after a connection has been made to the data source" When i run the report, I get the error: "An error has occurred during report processing. Cannot impersonate user for data source 'CostWatchDW_OLAP'. Logon failed. Logon failure: the user has not been granted the requested logon type at this computer. (Exception from HRESULT: 0x80070569)" My biggest stumbling block is that I work for a large public utility with insane security procedures, even on dev boxes. In addition, my DBA is not very familiar with Reporting or Analysis Services. So he cannot just open everything up, even temporarily. I need to be able to give him very specific instructions that will not compromise security for the rest of the box. Can anyone give me a pointer to how to set up caching in my circumstances, or give me a reference to a site/page that would help? Thanks for any help you might offer, Kathryn

The feature: "The edition of Reporting Services that you are using requires that you use local SQL Server relational databases for report data sources and the report server database." is not supported in this edition of Reporting Services. The data source production has a connection string with the Data Source element set to the named instance of SQL running on the local machine. The report manager web application is also running on the same machine. All databases are on the local machine (SERVER217MSSQL2K5WG). The version of reporting services installed is what shipped with the Workgroup edition of SQL Server 2005. Does anyone know what could be causing this error? I can assure you all of the data is on the local machine. Thanks in advance, Beau
