Newbie: Why Do I Have To Use OPENQUERY To A Linked Server? (ODBC To Firebird Database) social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hello, pls. let me know where I could post if this is the wrong place. I have a Firebird 1.5 application. I created a linked server from my SQL Server 2000 to the firebird database. In SQL Server Query Analyzer I get errors fromvarious ODBC drivers with "normal" queryies like SELECT LVNR FROM LINKEDSRV...LVVERW Pls. note, this all works perfectly in MS Access databases with ODBC-Links to Firebird! From a programmer of a commercial ODBC driver I heard that this problem may be caused internally by SQL Server, there may be no solution possible in the ODBC driver. One workaround would be to use the OPENQUERY-Syntax like SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(LINKEDSRV, 'select LVNR from LVVERW ') Are there any other solutions? Are there any known issues with firebird odbc-drivers and sql server? Are there any known good drivers for the use with sql-server? What is the purpose of OPENQUERY - workaround ODBC problems? Are there any settings in SQL Server 2000 (2005 Express) that could help? Are there any settings in ODBC DSN that would help? regards arno PS: Here are my favorite error messages Error -2147217900 [OLE/DB provider returned message: Dynamic SQL Error SQL error code = -104 Token unknown - line 1, char 89 "Col1014"] (Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 01000) (NativeError: 7312)Error -2147217900 OLE DB-Fehlertrace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' ICommandPrepare:repare returned 0x80004005: ]. ODBC Access Driver Error In Vista social.msdn.microsoft.com

I am migrating my development environment from XP Pro to Vista, and my website is now serving up the following error: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' [Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] Disk or network error. The code in question is as follows: set dbConn = Server.CreateObject("ADODB.Connection") szPath=Server.MapPath("../../../") szProvider="Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=" & szPath szProvider=szProvider & "database" & szDir & "" & szDB & ".mdb;" if bDebug then fpDebug.WriteLine("szProvider: " & szProvider) dbConn.Open szProvider The error happens on the last line where I try to open the connection. I've tried also using a dbConn.Provider="Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" line, to no avail. The item that is passed to the Open command is Driver=Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb); DBQ=C:obstuffdatabasedemoHMGA.mdb; I'm not familiar enough with DNS and IIS to figure this out. Any suggestions -- other than porting over to SQL and .NET? You don't buy a Ferrari when you only drive in a 30 MPH town.

Databases :: Trying To Connect To Oracle 10g Database Using ODBC Connection forums.asp.net

DataSet Not Working With View With Linked SQL Server stackoverflow.com

Anyway, I wrote a view with a union query in SQL Server that grabs data from a linked SQL server. Anytime I try to add this object as a dataset in VB.NET it completely bombs out on me with this ugly error message... ERROR [42000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] The operation could not be performed because the OLE DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' was unable to begin a distributed transaction. ERROR [01000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] [OLE/DB provider returned message : new transaction cannot enlist in the specified transaction coordinator] ERROR [01000] [Microsoft] [ODBC SQL Server Driver] [SQL Server] OLE DB Error Trace [OLE/DB Provider 'SQLOLEDB' lTransactionJoin::JoinTransaction returned 0x8004d00a] I'm completely stumped as to why I can't create a dataset from a view that references a linked SQL server. It's not this specific view either, all views that reference this linked server bomb out.

MS OLE DB For ODBC With Oracle ODBC Source Headaches bytes.com

Hi all, I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server 2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP. The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing with Oracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB for ODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior. Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get the following error OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST". I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with no problems and why other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything about the system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I have absolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connection is good. This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10g ODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery select against the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that the database has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBC driver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffer setting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from 64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be much appreciated. Thanks much

OLE DB Provider For ODBC And Oracle bytes.com

Hi, I created a linked server for MS SQL Server 2005 Express to an Oracle database using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC. My ODBC Source uses the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver. I'm using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC instead of the Oracle OLE DB providers because those don't handle Oracle's Numeric Data Type well. When I set this up yesterday it worked fine. However I log in today and attempt to run sp_tables_exec against my linked server and get the following OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 41 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER". I can tnsping the server, and I have no trouble connecting with the Oracle OLE DB provider I try to set up ODBC logging but the log file is blank -- same with attempting to set up logging for Oracle's network client. I've been dealing with crap like this the last 4 days, something works one day, then the next nothing (I've done nothing to change the configuration between these outages). Can anyone help me? Thanks Frustrated

Access Connection Problem forums.aspfree.com

Hi, I am completely new to ASP. I have experience in other programming languages, but for my job I need to use ASP, sigh. Anyways, just learning ASP I decided to try a free host to "get to grips" with it. It has been great for the first couple days, and am moving onto databases. I have hit a snag where I upload a simple MS Access database to the host (7host.com) and try and connect to it. I have tried W3Schools, and numerous other tutorials but none of them seem to work This is the kind of code I am trying: Code:Set conn = server.createobject("adodb.connection")conn.connectionstring = "DRIVER={Microsoft Access Driver (*.mdb)}; DBQ=db1.mdb"conn.Open Which comes up with this error: Code:Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005'[Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver]General error Unable to open registry key 'Temporary (volatile) Jet DSN for process 0x1238 Thread 0x10b0 DBC 0x267a024 Jet'./virtual/test.asp, line 16 Now, I really don't have a clue about ASP databases, so please be gentle >< Thanks virtual

Problems With Linked Tables In Access www.vbcity.com

I want to use an access database with linked tables to different source databases. This makes it easy to query data over multiple tables in one sql.On my local computer this works fine. When I put all the access databases on a web-server (no MS Access installed on that manchine) I get problems when executing the sql in a asp page: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers error '80004005' Microsoft][ODBC Microsoft Access Driver] The Microsoft Jet database engine cannot open the file '\serverwwwrootabcdb.mdb'. It is already opened exclusively by another user, or you need permission to view its data. Does anyone knows what causes this ? The file is not opened by someone else. Secondly the path used for the link is accessible on the server. I am wondering if I need MS Access installed on the web server to manage the link functionality in the MS Acces db (specific dll’s on that machine). For security reasons we rather not want to install Access on the server.
