Can't Connect To Oracle Dbase With SQL Server 2005 Express bytes.com

Hi, I'm attempting to connect to an Oracle database using SQL Server 2005 Express (OS is Windows XP Professional) and having absolutely no luck. I've tried creating a linked server with both the Microsoft provided OLE DB provider and the Oracle provider. With the Microsoft Provider I get the following error when attempting a query in the query edit window. OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "ORACLE" returned message "Oracle client and networking components were not found. These components are supplied by Oracle Corporation and are part of the Oracle Version 7.3.3 or later client software installation. Provider is unable to function until these components are installed.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "ORACLE". When I try connecting withe Oracle provider I get the following - OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "ORACLETEST2" returned message "ORA-01017: invalid username/password; logon denied". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 2 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "OraOLEDB.Oracle" for linked server "ORACLETEST2". I've set the password up as a local to remote login mapping using the security page of the Linked Server property dialog. The username / password are definitely correct -- I used them to log in using SQL PLUS and PL/SQL Developer. I'm using an Oracle 9 client. PLEASE HELP !!!!! Thanks, Signed Frustrated

Need Help Importing Data From Excel To My SQL Database bytes.com

Hey guys, I am trying to import data from an Excel spreadsheet into my SQL database. I am running SQL 2005. I following Microsoft's instructions for creating a linked server, and it appeared to work. Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "EFORMS". Test is the table that will receive the imported data. Eforms is the name of my linked server, and Form Tracker Baseline is the worksheet name. The error sounds like it can not locate my spreadsheet. Any ideas why I am getting this message? Is there an easier way to do this import? Thanks,

Is there a connection issue here where a connection blocks subsequent attempts to select the data within a specific time span? Thank you for your help! cdun2

Oracle Linked Server Connection Error After Upgrading To SQL 2005 social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hello all. I upgraded a SQL 2000 installation to SQL 2005 this past weekend. Minimal issues overall, but one that did crop up relates to a linked server to an Oracle database. The linked server worked before the upgrade, and stopped working immediately after. We're running on Windows 2003 x64, latest service pack. The linked server is set up using the MSDAORA provider. The error I'm getting post-upgrade is: ===================== OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD" returned message "ORA-06413: Connection not open.". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure RDM_GET_REP_LIST_SP, Line 12 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "PROD". ===================== A tnsping from the server works fine.I've also tried recreating the linked server. Any help would be appreciated. Let me know what other information would be useful. Thanks, Adam

OLE DB Provider For ODBC And Oracle bytes.com

Hi, I created a linked server for MS SQL Server 2005 Express to an Oracle database using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC. My ODBC Source uses the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle driver. I'm using the OLE DB Provider for ODBC instead of the Oracle OLE DB providers because those don't handle Oracle's Numeric Data Type well. When I set this up yesterday it worked fine. However I log in today and attempt to run sp_tables_exec against my linked server and get the following OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 41 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "WHATEVER". I can tnsping the server, and I have no trouble connecting with the Oracle OLE DB provider I try to set up ODBC logging but the log file is blank -- same with attempting to set up logging for Oracle's network client. I've been dealing with crap like this the last 4 days, something works one day, then the next nothing (I've done nothing to change the configuration between these outages). Can anyone help me? Thanks Frustrated

Recurring Issue - OPENROWSET For Excel Query Stops Working , Cured By Restart Of SQL Server social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi, I am having a recurring issue that involves a stored proc using OPENROWSET to query an excel file. I used the surface area config to enable this on the server, and made sure that is still set. After an undetermined amount of time, the OPENROWSET query starts failing with this message: OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)" returned message "Unspecified error". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)". I corrected this previously by restarting the SQL server, but not before I checked permissions, the excel file itself, etc, and that was the last thing to try. I am using SQL 2005 with SP1 installed - my primary approach to tackling this issue is to install the SP2, but I did not find this bug referenced in the fixes, and was wondering if anyone else had further insight. Thanks, Darrell Young

MS OLE DB For ODBC With Oracle ODBC Source Headaches bytes.com

Hi all, I am having trouble getting linked Oracle 9 server in MS SQL Server 2005 Express to work properly. My machine is running Windows XP. The Microsoft and Oracle OLE DB Providers have problems dealing with Oracle's Numeric Data Type, so I decided to use Microsoft's OLE DB for ODBC Provider and an Oracle ODBC source. When using the Microsoft ODBC for Oracle Driver in my ODBC source I have inconsistent behavior. Sometimes my queries are processed properly, then other times I get the following error OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC driver for Oracle][Oracle]". Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ODBCBEAST". I have no idea why sometimes I can connect to the linked server with no problems and why other times it performs like this. I'm not changing anything about the system I can think of. When I use an Oracle client (PL/SQL) I have absolutely no problems connecting. TNSPING returns that the connection is good. This is unacceptable so I decided to try my luck with the Oracle 10g ODBC driver. However when I use this and perform an openquery select against the linked server I get back only 11 rows, when I know that the database has over 100 rows (in fact when using the Microsoft ODBC driver and it works that's what I get). I figured maybe the buffer setting needed to be raised in the ODBC configuration so I took it from 64000 to 600000 (a magnitude of 10) but I still get back only 11 rows. I'm at my wit's end. Any suggestions on resolving one or the other problem would be much appreciated. Thanks much

I'm new here and this is my first post. I am not sure if this is the right place for me to post this problem but I really need your help guys. I've been looking for a solution of this problem for almost a week now. I'd googled a lot but of no result. What I want to do is to import records from access 2000 database to SQL 2005 Express. I use the following statement to import records: SELECT * FROM OPENROWSET('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Data Source="D:SamplesMydatabase.mdb";User ID=Admin;JET OLEDB:Database Password=mypass', 'tblTab1') The following error shows: Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0" for linked server "(null)". I dont know if the statement is correct or I am missing something. I had reinstalled my MS Access but this does not help either. By the way I'm using Access 2003 and my database is 2000 access version. Hope somebody can help me get out of this. thanks, bodjo

Cannot Connect Using ADO With Excel Microsoft Jet Provider 4.0 social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hi: I have a vb 6 app that exports data from sql to excel. The user has the ability to select either local or server. When they select server, the connection string is modified to include the server name instead of the local msde instance to look like this: "provider=sqloledb;data source=MyServer;initial catalog=MyDatabase;user id=UserX;password=PasswordX;database=MyDatabase" I'm using Microsoft Jet Provider 4.0 and OpenDataSource. SELECT * INTO TempXL FROM OPENDATASOURCE('Microsoft.Jet.OLEDB.4.0', 'Data Source=C: estxltest.xls;Extended Properties=Excel 8.0')...[Sheet1$] This code works fine when user is accessing msde on local, but when using above DSN, I receive the following message: "2147217900 - OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'Microsoft.Jet.OLEdB.4.0' IDBInitialize:: Initialize returned 0x800040005: The provider did not give any information about the error.] When I trace the connection, these error messages occur: Failed to set proper user name ('NT AUTHORITYSYSTEM') for the connection [Microsoft][ODBC SQL Server Driver][SQL Server]Cannot alter table 'TblXMyTable' because this table does not exist in database 'master'. (State 01000) (Code 7300) I am especially puzzled by the second message because I am specifying the database name in my connection string as: "provider=sqloledb;data source=MyServer;initial catalog=MyDatabase;user id=UserX;password=PasswordX;database=MyDatabase" I can read from the server copy and copy to Excel, but I cannot write back to SQL. Can someone please tell me what I'm doing wrong? Paradox Linked Server Problem www.dbforums.com

I have a SQL Server 2005 linked server object to access a Paradox database. The object's properties are: General Provider=MSDASQL Product Name=remote server IP address Data source=System DSN name Security Connections will: Be made without using a security context (BDE is installed on the local machine and synchronised with DSN) Problem When I use OPENQUERY against this linked server, SQL Server works fine and fetches back the data in no time. If I then run the same query through a SQL Server Agent job I get the following error (from the job's log): [SQLSTATE 01000] (Error 7412) OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ABC" returned message "[Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Driver's SQLSetConnectAttr failed". From then on, running the same query in Query Analyser either results in the query running on (despite the source table having only 10 rows and 2 columns) until I cancel it, or in the following error: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ABC" reported an error. The provider reported an unexpected catastrophic failure. Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Line 3 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "ABC". If the machine is rebooted everything works fine again, until I run the query through SQL Server Agent (which uses the local system account). I can run an AS400 openquery anywhere without problems. I can also import Paradox tables directly from SS Management Studio and SS Integration Services (using the same DSN and BDE) without problems. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance, KarimK

Linked Server Error !!! www.sqlteam.com

Hi Pals, We have an SSIS package within which we are calling a stored procedure which eventually call a sql server dbo.fn() which contains code to lookup data inside oracle using Linked Server for Oracle. We are calling the Package dynamically from the stored procedure by creating a SQL Server Agent Job, I am getting the below error very often. Can we fix the error in any way? “EXEC sp_UpdateTname 369,'939390',2008 " failed with the following error: "Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "MSDAORA" for linked server "ORATEST".". Possible failure reasons: Problems with the query, "ResultSet" property not set correctly, parameters not set correctly, or connection not established correctly. When I hard code global variables and ran the package I am able to see the successful execution of the package. Can anybody point out where could the error lies?

Msg 7303, Level 16, State 1, Procedure sp_tables_ex, Line 41 Cannot initialize the data source object of OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "Server2". is this a username/password issue? the windows administrator accounts are the same, and so are the sa logins, is there something i can do to get past this? small update i tried: USE master; GO EXEC sp_addlinkedserver 'Server2', N'SQL Server' GO BEGIN TRY EXEC sp_testlinkedserver N'Server2'; END TRY BEGIN CATCH PRINT 'Linked Server not available'; RETURN; END CATCH ang got: OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "Server2" returned message "Login timeout expired". OLE DB provider "SQLNCLI" for linked server "Server2" returned message "An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections.". Linked Server not available

Adding A Linked Server social.msdn.microsoft.com

HI, There is a requirement to transfer a table data from a oracle view to a SQL Server table. These both reside on the same box. I am trying to add the oracle instance as a linked server, like this: EXEC sp_addlinkedserver @server = @SOURCE_SERVER_NAME, @srvproduct = '', @provider = @PROVIDER_NAME, @datasrc = @DATA_SOURCE_NAME The server gets added. But When I use this string as part of a stored procedure (or even not use it there), which does the work of transfering the data as required, I get this error: Server: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Procedure UBS_PULL_HR_DATA, Line 125 OLE DB provider 'MSDASQL' reported an error. [OLE/DB provider returned message: [Microsoft][ODBC Driver Manager] Data source name not found and no default driver specified] OLE DB error trace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' IDBInitialize::Initialize returned 0x80004005: ]. I have added this Name in the System DSM also. I dont know how to go about it. Can any one please help? Thanks a lot and let me know if the question is not clear. Mannu.

But when I try to use the connection in OLE DB Source when I will list the tables I get this error: Could not retrieve the table information for the connection manager 'MyDataSource'. truncated. The parameter is incorrect. Anyone had these problems ? Thanks, Guber

Linked Server To Pervasive 8 - Connection Error social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hello, I am currently migrating from SQL 7.0 to SQL2005. So far everything is going well except for one thing, my linked server to a Pervasive 8.6 server database. I've done the same configurations as with the SQL 7.0 server to create the linked server. I've created an Pervasive ODBC Client DSN systemconnection on the server called PervasiveDB pointing to the DataDB catalog, using TCP/IP as transport and the server name "PervasiveDB"as the server address. From this point, on the SQL2005 server, the DSNconnection is successfull and I can see the different catalog names of the PervasiveDB server. When I create the Linked server on the SQL2005, I create exactly as done on the SQL7.0 which is : SQL7.0 server : OS is Windows 2000 all service packs applied for both OS and SQL7.0 SQL2005 server : OS is Windows2003 standard editionall service packs applied for both OS and SQL2005. Linked server name : TestPervasive Provider : Microsoft OLE DB Provider for ODBC Drivers Product name: Pervasive Data source: PervasiveDB Location: PervasiveDB Catalog : DataDB I get the following error when I try to query the data to test if the linked server I just created is successful: query : SELECT * FROM testpervasive.DataDB..schedule error message: Msg 7399, Level 16, State 1, Line 1 The OLE DB provider "MSDASQL" for linked server "TestPervasive" reported an error. Newbie: Why Do I Have To Use OPENQUERY To A Linked Server? (ODBC To Firebird Database) social.msdn.microsoft.com

Hello, pls. let me know where I could post if this is the wrong place. I have a Firebird 1.5 application. I created a linked server from my SQL Server 2000 to the firebird database. In SQL Server Query Analyzer I get errors fromvarious ODBC drivers with "normal" queryies like SELECT LVNR FROM LINKEDSRV...LVVERW Pls. note, this all works perfectly in MS Access databases with ODBC-Links to Firebird! From a programmer of a commercial ODBC driver I heard that this problem may be caused internally by SQL Server, there may be no solution possible in the ODBC driver. One workaround would be to use the OPENQUERY-Syntax like SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(LINKEDSRV, 'select LVNR from LVVERW ') Are there any other solutions? Are there any known issues with firebird odbc-drivers and sql server? Are there any known good drivers for the use with sql-server? What is the purpose of OPENQUERY - workaround ODBC problems? Are there any settings in SQL Server 2000 (2005 Express) that could help? Are there any settings in ODBC DSN that would help? regards arno PS: Here are my favorite error messages Error -2147217900 [OLE/DB provider returned message: Dynamic SQL Error SQL error code = -104 Token unknown - line 1, char 89 "Col1014"] (Source: Microsoft OLE DB Provider for SQL Server) (SQL State: 01000) (NativeError: 7312)Error -2147217900 OLE DB-Fehlertrace [OLE/DB Provider 'MSDASQL' ICommandPrepare:repare returned 0x80004005: ]. Cannot Convert Between Unicode And Non-unicode String Data Types. social.msdn.microsoft.com

I have an Excel Source component hooked to an OLE DB Destination component in my SSIS 2005 Data Flow Task.  After I mapped the excel columns to the OLE DB table columns i get these errors below.  I noticed that for the first error, the Excel Field format (when you mouse over the column name in the mappings section in OLE DB component) is of type [DTWSTR] and the corresponding SQL field from my SQL table that it's mapping to is of type [DT_STR] when mousing over that field in the mappings in the properties of my OLE DB component.  All table fields in SQL Server for the table I'm inserting into are of type varchar. print screens here: http://www.webfound.net/excel_ssis.jpg http://www.webfound.net/excel_to_oledb_mappings.jpg Package Validation Error ------------------------------ ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: Error at Data Flow Task [OLE DB Destination [27]]: Columns "Commission Agency" and "CommissionAgency" cannot convert between unicode and non-unicode string data types. Hello , While running an SSIS data flow package , i receive the following error, Error: 0xC0202009 at Data Flow Task, OLE DB Command [1024]: SSIS Error Code DTS_E_OLEDBERROR. An OLE DB error has occurred. Error code: 0x80040E14. An OLE DB record is available. Source: "Microsoft SQL Native Client" Hresult: 0x80040E14 Description: "The incoming tabular data stream (TDS) remote procedure call (RPC) protocol stream is incorrect. The RPC name is invalid.". It happens as i follow this procedure 1) Get data from D1(data source 1)..OLE DB source 2) See if data already exists in D2...Lookup transform 3) If it already exists, UPDATE the data already in D2 (update existing rows)...Ole db command I have a lookup transform before the i send that data to the ole db command.
