I wonder if anybody has ran into the issue where a running emulator would lose network connection all at a sudden for no obvious reason. And I am sure the computer running the JVM is still online.Restarting the emulator seems to fix the issue but it's been a major PITA for me as it interrupts the work flow.I am using 2.1 SDK 7.
I am using laptop and connected to wifi network. I have started the android emulator and open the browser to browse. But it is not working. thrown error saying network connection not available. But I am able to browse in my laptop. How I can enable emulator to use wifi network for internet?

I'm working on a Push Notifications library for Android (http://deaconproject.org/) that needs to take action if network connectivity is interrupted or changed - namely, it needs to re-initiate a server connection or pause its operation until network connectivity is available. This seems to work fine using and Android BroadcastReceiver for "android.net.ConnectivityManager.CONNECTIVITY_ACTION". My problem is in testing the library - I would like to automatically test the library's response to a broken network connection, or a transition from 3G to WiFi, under various configuration conditions. The problem is, I don't want to sit with the emulator and hit F8 all day. Is there a way to programmatically manipulate network connections on Android from within a jUnit test without resorting to toggling Airplane Mode? I've already tried issuing commands to the emulator via the console, manipulating the GSM mode, etc, but while the phone state changes on the display, the Internet connection remains up.
The internet browser works very slowly inside the emulator for Android 2.1 AVD.I tried using -netfast switch also while launching the emulator, but it doesnt help much. The same websites when i open in my Browser from my desktop , it opens very fast, and the same website inside emulator opens very slowly. Also i get only 2 towers on the network strength indicator in my emulator. Is there any way to improve the network signal inside the emulator?I have also noticed that emulator would get the network only if i am connected to the internet, else it gives no signal I am trying to simulate a very simple sms message sending and receving between two instances of emulators opened on 2 AVD.The message sending is successful only if my internet connection is on before i launch the emulator, else it gives no Service and message is not sent.I have noticed that a DNS SERVER NOT FOUND warning comes if i try to launch the emulator with my internet connection switched off.
Currently I am using Android emulator for development, but it is very slow. I am looking for some android port that can run on real CPU. For example I installed this product http://www.android-x86.org/documents/installhowto on VMware, and it seems to work much faster, but I have no idea how to setup network connection here. The question is if some one is using alternative android setup for development, instead of emulator? If so, a link to configure instructions would be great.
I am facing connection refused error 111 in TCP client server program, in android native code which in C , but if code is in JAVA it works fine, but i want to continue in C only, in manifest file i have given permission and ip, port is correct .What am doing wrong?? or is their any network setting?? am using UBUNTU 10.04and If both client server Linux pc it works fine. only if android emulator becomes client then am getting connection refused

How do I monitor network traffic sent and received from my android emulator?
I am working on an Android application which does http request and download contents etc. I want to test such cases on Android Simulator. I am using Android SDK 1.6.As my computer(Mac OS X) has Internet connectivity via Wifi, I'm trying to activate Wifi connectivity in Android Simulator as well, so that my code can get data connection access to download the data from http server. But when i try to connect it, it says 'Unable to start Wi-Fi' in the simulator wireless settings. If i try to browse in emulator browser, it says 'page not available, check connection etc'. Can you please tell me how to have Internet connection on Android Emulator? I don't know how to set Wifi settings in Android simulator. Could someone help me on this? System: Mac OS X Android SDK: 1.6 Editor: Eclipse IDE for Java developers. Internet connectivity on Mac system: via WiFi Please give me step by step procedure to have Internet connectivity on Android Emulator as i didn't find anything from anywhere.
I'm trying to write an application that needs to know when there is no IP network connection available. I am using the android.net.conn.CONNECTIVITY_CHANGE broadcast event along with ConnectivityManager to react to the changes in state to achieve this, but I'm having problems testing my set up in the emulator.I have tried both flight mode and pressing F8 to disable the "Cellular Network" but even with both of these engaged the application still "sees" the underlying network.Has anybody managed to find a way to simulate a total lack of network access?
I only get a phone signal about a third of the times i start the emulator. I've read on these groups that you have to have an internet connection before starting the emulator. Since i'm connected to the internet 24/7 :) this is not the problem I've also read somewhere that you should try do disable all other network connections (which i've done) and the problem persists. I'm using Windows 7 and Android 2.1 + API's emulator. You received this message because you are subscribed to the Google Groups "Android Developers" group. At my place of work we write our own software using VB 6/SQL Server. Our network is fairly reliable though occasionally our VB apps lose the database connection while running, giving lost connection errors.Error trapping would catch the error but what would be ideal would be when this error occurs have the program attempt a reconnection and when successful continue where the program left off.Is this feasable bearing in mind the connection could be lost anytime i.e. in the middle of a do...while loop.
How to view the list of network connection mobile APNs or WiFi configured on the emulator.
I am building an application for windows mobile 5.0 using the .net compact framework and the mysql compact framework connector.Using this very simple app, I test the connection to our database: Dim connection As New MySql.Data.MySqlClient.MySqlConnection("Server=184.108.40.206;Uid=***;Pwd=***;Database=DevAutomate;Pooling=false;")Private Sub Form1_Load(ByVal sender As System.Object, ByVal e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load connection.Open() connection.Close() End Sub In the beginning, I was using an emulator to test this and I was getting a MissingManifestResource error. When I figured out that the emulator didn't have a network connection, I connected it to active sync and used the device emulator manager to simulate cradling the device. Next, I got my hands on a HP iPac mobile device running windows windows mobile classic and I get the MissingManifestResource exception again. This time, I have a network connection on my device and it can definately see the database.
I am having a problem in running Android unit test. I got this error when I tried to run a simple test. Here's the log: CODE:......................... This error occurs for Android less than 2.2. It works fine for Android 2.2 emulator. Yet Android 2.2 emulator has a bug of sending a key twice even though we only press it one. Application to be tested runs on Android 2.2 platform.
I am using the android 1.5 and have compiled and run the Snake sample application on the Emulator, using Eclipse to launch it.When I try to debug it using the Eclipse environment I get the error:"Launch error: Failed to connect to remote VM. Connection refused."I do have the AndroidManifest.xml debuggable=true set and i went into the emulator and set Dev Tools > Development Settings> and checked "Wait for debugger", and added the snake app to the Debug App.So not sure what else to do to get it to work.I also turned off my firewall just in case too.

I am building a program that works over network... now i recently updated to a wireless network in teh office, and i am getting very frustrated with it already becasue the wireless network looses signal every so often. Now when the signal is lost teh program generates a runtime error # 3043 Disk/Network error. I have implemented the following error handling routine:top of the sub ex: Code:Public Function refresh_labels()On Error GoTo hellerror handler itself: Code:hell:If Err.Number = 3043 Then MsgBox "Connection to the server could not be established" & vbNewLine & "Check your network connection and try again", vbCritical, "ERROR" Err.clearElse MsgBox "OPERATION ABORTED: " & Err.Description & vbNewLine & vbNewLine & "Please try again", vbCritical, "ERROR" Err.clearEnd IfWhen a connection is lost temporarily (Usually a few seconds) an error is generated, but even after teh connection is restored, teh error message is generated. Any ideas why it does that ?

I'm just getting started with Android programming, using Eclipse 3.7.1 and ADT 16.0.1. Naturally I started with the usual Hello World program. It runs fine on a physical device, but not on the emulator. When I run it on an AVD, here's what the console window says: [2012-01-27 17:02:29 - HelloAndroid] ------------------------------ [2012-01-27 17:02:29 - HelloAndroid] Android Launch! The emulator starts up and appears to be working OK, but the app never shows up on it. I can also start the AVD from the AVD manager window, and again it starts and runs OK. But if I try to run my app, the emulator doesn't show up in the list of running Android devices in the device chooser -I assume it should, since there's a column headed "AVD name".
I am trying to write an android application and my workflow is as follows: Write some code Click run as Android Application Eclipse then starts the android emulator Install the app on the emulator Run it It seems to me that there is no need for it to start an android emulator(3) each time and to kill it. It'd be nice if there was a way an android emulator always running and eclipse just installs/uninstalls the app instead of making me wait every time.
How to find whether internet connection is working or not in android emulator?... I'm doing one RSS Program. Unlike the iPhone simulator, the Android emulator doesn't look like an Android device. If you have to create a screencast or promotional video of your Android application, the default skin of the emulator is no good. Is there any way to configure the emulator to look like an Android device? If you have dealt with this already, what other things do you recommend taking into account to record an emulator screencast? Not a programming question per se, but an useful question for Android developers.
I am developing an application for android based cell phone from emulator. The application i am developing requires ad hoc network. I do not own the phone or can't get it from anywhere else. So I want to create and establish ad hoc network in that emulator only. I am using standard ADK 2.2. I read somewhere that the information and settings of networks are read through a file called tiwlan.ini. Is this file available even for emulator? If it is, where is it located inside it? If its not, can i copy the file available on Internet and put it somewhere inside my emulator and change system path to read network information to that file's path? If even that is not possible, is there any solution available by which I can establish ad hoc network on emulator?

I'm trying to receive data from a multicast address, but the call to MulticastSocket.receive() blocks until a timeout takes place.I did some network sniffing and found out that my device (and the emulator) never send a MulticastSocket.joinGroup request.I tried running the same Java code from my PC as a standalone application and it worked well. Could it be that the Android platform blocks IGMP join requests?Has anyone succeeded with Multicast on Android before? My manifest file contains the following permission:I am running my application on 2.1 (Both emulator & device).Any ideas anyone?

I am doing a project where we have to use the Android Terminal Emulator. I downloaded the the Jackpal Android Terminal Emulator from github and using the instructions in the document to build the terminal emulator. [code]..... I am having trouble installing the package in the first step itself, i.e. building the ndk shared libraries. According to the instructions provided: Build the shared library: cd <the-android-terminal-emulator-directory> <path-to-the-android-ndk>/ndk-build Accordingly, I typed the following in my cmd C:>cd androidterm C:androidterm>android-ndk-r6b/ndk-build I got the following error message: 'android-ndk-r6b' is not recognized as an internal or external command, operable program or batch file. I am still learning Android and have never worked with the command line before. Is it a problem with the way I have typed the command?

I have issue with running apps in emulator from Eclipse. I was using tutorials from http://developer.android.com: http://developer.android.com/guide/tutorials/hello-world.html http://developer.android.com/resources/tutorials/hello-world.html Also, i tried running sample projects delivered with SDK. Otherwise, follow the instructions in -help-disk-images to start the emulator. Am i looking at the right executable? can any one please help me figure this out.
Right now my app needs to use the devices (emulators) Internet connection. Ive read before that since my computer has Internet the emulator should be able to access it. On linux everything works but on windows the emulator cant find the DNS Im using, event if I add -dns-server 220.127.116.11,18.104.22.168 on Eclipses launch options. Ive tried on Android 1.6 and 2.1. Is there anything else I should try?
Currently, I am targetting the emulator to make Android application which is targetted for an Android device which includes 5" 24bit display. Only currently android emulator (or android in general) only appears to support 16bit. Meaning we are experiencing dithering issues why it isn't really necessary. Now my question can I somehow recompile Android 1.5 emulator image so it's using 24bit instead? Or is this impossible without a lot of changes? Currently, I am predithering the images but no fun ;)
I was searching around for any news on a PSX or N64 emulator for android, but there seems to be no breakthroughs yet. One thing I found was this. If you'd like to see more high-end emulators like this on Android, sign the petition. Let's try and get as many people as possible so it can be possible. There's a bug in my network code so that when the server's not available the Android client tries over and over to connect. On 1.5 (emulator) this results, within a minute, in an "Excessive JNI global references" error where the leaked object is a small (20 byte) boolean array. The same code on emulated 2.1 runs for as long as my patience lasts. Is there any possibility the leak is in my code and not an Android bug that's been fixed since 1.5?

I'm using Google API Level 8 and emulator in the Eclipse. I've got another API key, but nothing has changed.
Have a server-socket running in an android application, which I debug using the emulator. Using the emulators console and "redir add tcp:8888:8888" I can make the service available to a program running on my development machine (as localhost:8888). The redir port is however not available on any other network interface, meaning I can't access it through the host-ip on either the local development machine, or from a secondary machine on the network. Anyone know if its possible to make the emulator bind to all network interfaces, or have some other trick to enable other hosts on the network to connect to the emulator?
I want to install android Market App on Emulator, so that i can browse and install various free apps on emulators.

I'm having problems connecting some devices (android apps) to my computer via my wi-fi. I am usually able to solve the problem by running network diagnostics, but after awhile, I'll start having network connectivity problems again. Whenever I run diagnostics in these situations, this error is shown in Event Viewer: "WLAN Extensibility Module has stopped. Module Path: C:\Windows\system32\athihvs." I also receive the error (in event viewer) on a fairly regular basis: "Your computer was not assigned an address from the network (by the DHCP Server) for the Network Card with network address 0x2225D3CC6415. The following error occurred: 0x79. Your computer will continue to try and obtain an address on its own from the network address (DHCP) server." I have checked, and my router and WLAN card drivers are both up to date. I'm wondering if these errors are what is causing my app to lose connection?

I want to use the wifi card in my laptop to share my internet connection to my Android Phone.Android phones don't support Ad-hoc networks yet (maybe not ever) so I need to the shared network in Infrastructure mode not ad-hoc mode.Using Ubuntu 10.04, If I click on the NetworkManager Applet ( 0.8 ) and select Create new wireless network, it will create an ad-hoc network, I then tried changing this to infrastructure, but it didn't work.Is there some way of modifying this created network to make it appear as infrastructure, or alternatively create a shared internet connection in infrastructure mode?
I am able to find and connect to my Wifi Network at home, but internet connection between my new Android Tablet and Wifi is slow. My apple devices connect to the same router and are able to browser fast, the android tablet also browses fast with other Wifi network. There is something between the combination on the tablet and my wifi router that is making the connection slow (the google homepage takes forever to load so does other sites). Tablet runs Android JellyBeans 4.1 and Wifi is secured using WPA-PSK (tired AES, TKIP and even open connection)
When I try to use some of the built-in Access command buttons, I get the following error: "Error accessing file. Network connection may have been lost." The connection to the network is fine, though, because when I try to use the same command buttons in a different DB, they all work fine. Any suggestions? Thanks.
New to Android 1.5 using one day. Everything seems to work fine except on starting emulator takes forever then Message : Application Alarm Clock (in process com.android.alarmclock) is not responding. Tried setting clock for a time but still no go?? Figure the long emulator startup time is do to the alarm clock error.
Is there a way to reload an Android application in the emulator without closing the emulator, saving any code changes, and running the emulator again? If I make even a simple change to the layout, it takes about 30 seconds by time I run it in Eclipse and Android "boots", and I can unlock the emulator to run the application. Is there any way to shorten this time when making changes, or is it something I just have to deal with?

I did some modification about the java code and AndroidManifest.xml of "com.android.settings" package. Then I ran the emulator like this: make; lunch 1; emulator & When PackageManagerService was scanning the "/system/app/Settings.apk" packages at boot time, it reported an error that "com.android.settings has no certificates at entry AndroidManifest.xml". I guess my modified "Settings.apk" could not pass the signature verify. How can I run my modified "Settings.apk" successfully?
From a remote machine we are sending some UDP packets to our Android emulator. We are able to see the UDP packets reaching the host machine, but not able to reach the emulator, In Wireshark we are getting "Destination port unreachable" The port we are using is:49152 and static ip at both ends.Is this port supported by android emulator? What is the solution to get UDP packets to be able to reach till the emulator?

My activity needs to communicate with a java server located on my dev machine. Actually, using the emulator, I can access the server socket via the special 10.0.2.2 address. Now I'd like to test my app on my phone connected via usb, but it seems like I can't use 10.0.2.2 to access my dev machine localhost anymore. Naturally using a wifi router and a proper lan addressing does the trick, but I need to use usb connection instead. Any hint ? 1. Emulator-based scenario: standard java server running on my pc @localhost:15000 android java client running on my emulator. When the android app needs to contact the server it uses 10.0.2.2:15000 like specified here. Everything works fine. 2. Proper wifi scenario with physical connected device: standard java server running on my pc @192.168.1.10:15000. android java client running on my device with 192.168.1.11 address assigned. When the android app needs to contact the server it uses 192.168.1.10:15000 and everything works fine too. 3. Desired scenario: standard java server running on my pc @localhost:15000. android java client running on my device connected via usb cable. No network is active. When the android app needs to contact the server it tries to connect to 10.0.2.2:15000 but instead an exception is thrown (Network unreachable). It seems like special address 10.0.2.2 works only for emulator instances. I just wonder if in the adb/adt suite there's a way to access pc address from the device connected via usb cable.
I developed a bluetooth client android application on Htc Hero and developed on windows a bluetooth server application. Server application make SDP successfully and i can connect from android application to it, but establishing connection not very easy, sometimes it connects to bluetooth server with one attempt, sometimes after making 4 or 5 attempts and occasionally i lost connection after established a connection. What is reason of that, it is a problem of android or htc hero? Because with J2me application i connect to server easily and connection continue a long time .
